Research Grants and Scholarhips for young researchers from Pakistan
Research Initiatives for GIS Applications in
     Planning, Urban Development, Environmental Governance and related research themes
Objectives:
  • To support Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications in research and development activities in the field of urban planning, rural development, health, environmental and natural resource management. 
  • To encourage young researchers from Pakistan and provide them financial support to carry on their research work.

  • Eligibility:
     Master and undergraduate level students/researchers in Pakistani universities/Private Institutions  in the relevant fields. Priority will be given to the researchers who intend to use GIS / Remote Sensing and other computer aided techniques for  analysis. 
    Research Grants:
    "Research Initiatives for GIS Applications in Planning and Development" will be a grant as partially support to the cost of research work and data collection etc. The  excellent research work may also be offered for publication upon completion. Amount of research grant is flexible (upto Rs. 20000 per researcher) depending upon the proposed research work and its intended outcomes. Research Grants will be awarded on annual GIS Conference of PSGIS every year.
    Target Group:
    Bachelor and Masters Students of all Engineering Universities in Pakistan.  International Islamic University Islamabad, National University of Science and Technology (NUST), FAST,  LUMS, Space Science Department, University of the Punjab, Quaid e Azam University, Allah Iqbal Open University, University of Peshawar, University of Karachi and other research and academic institutions from Pakistan.
    Research Themes:
    GIS applications to Educational Planning, Urban and Regional Planning, Facility Management, Health Impact Assessment, Environmental and Natural Resource Management, Urban Development, Environmental Governance, community and social  development, and allied topics.
    Application Date:
    Flexible: March 30, and September 30 
    ( Every year)

    How to apply:
    Please send a copy of your  research proposal with recommendation of your research supervisors to General  Secretary PSGIS.
    The Research Supervisors of selected young scholars will also be awarded with appreciation certificates.

    Email communication is preferred

    What should be included in application:

    Simply send a summary of your on going or proposed research work (masters or Bachelors Thesis).
    It must include: Title, Abstract, Problem Statement, Objectives, Research Methodology (tools for analysis), Expected Outcomes and Practical Implementation (Importance for Local, Provincial or National level). 
    Don't forget to mention your full  contact address, phone, fax, and  email. 

    Printing of research reports:
     Pakistan Society of Geographic Information Systems will also print selected research work at no cost to the researcher.

    Note for Donors:
    For the promotion of research activities related with the application of GIS and Remote Sensing techniques, interested persons can fix donations in the name of their organization or individual. Private organizations may also offer research topics of their interest against these awards within the objectives of the Research Initiative. The name of the perspective donating individuals/ organizations will be properly advertised through electronic and print media from the platform of PSGIS. PSGIS will not play any middle  role to handle these research donations. The donor will hand over the research fund directly to the account of selected researcher. However all the process of selection and research award will be  conducted through PSGIS.
