1. Master’s program

• To those who understand instructions in Japanese language at Master’s program at Tokyo Tech. see this page.
• To those who understand instructions in English language only at Master’s program: you should apply for International Program on Effective Utilization of Technology in Graduate School of Decision Science and Technology in Integrated Doctoral Education Program at Tokyo Tech. see this page and you can select one of the following programs at the Department of Social Engineering.

	Economics Program (instructions will be given in English)
	Public Policy Design Program (consult your supervisor on the possibility that you can get English instructions)
	Environmental Design Program (consult your supervisor on the possibility that you can get English instructions)

It should be noted that you have to complete both requirements of integrated program and of the programs of the Department of Social Engineering in order to obtain the degree.

(1) English exams of the entrance exam in master’s course
• The Department of Social Engineering assesses the score of English by the transcript of external English exam (TOEIC, TOEFL-PBT, TOEFl-CBT. TOEFL-iBT only) (There are no English paper tests). We accept the transcript of the external English exam within five years. The score is converted into a scale on which 200 is perfection, and added to the score of the exam. As a general rule, a copy of the transcript of the external English exam should be provided with the application form.
• (2) About the Personal Statement of the master’s course

  You must write a document explaining the contents of your dissertation for the undergraduate school, and a personal statement explaining your research project in the master’s course in a single A4 sized paper. You must state which program (Economics Program, Public Policy Design Program, or Environmental Design Program) you want to choose after entering the master’s course on the top of the document. Applicants intending to choose the Environmental Design Program can attach a document (maximum single A4 sized paper) explaining their idea about space design.

• (3) If you are already living in Japan, you have to take exams. Consult to the head of the department.

2. Doctoral program

• Admissions are in April and October
  Information about April admissions is provided in the prospectus prepared in November on the year before the year of entrance. Normally those who do not hold the master’s degree will submit the application form in December, and those who hold the master’s degree will submit it in January, and the entrance exam is held on February. Information about October admissions is provided in the prospectus prepared in May on the same year of entrance. Generally the submission of the application forms is in June, and the entrance exam is in August.
  However, this information is subject to change, thus please check the prospectus, and the website of the Department of Social Engineering.
• The score of the external English exam (TOEIC, TOEFL-PBT, TOEFl-CBT. TOEFL-iBT only) within five years are required.
• Applicants are required to choose a program from the following three programs, and also your choice of the supervisor is needed. Please look the following pages for the curriculum of the programs.

	New Paradigm Course
	Economics Program Public Policy Design Program Environmental Design Program
	Nonprofit Management Course

• However, except Economics program, English instructions for Public Policy Design, Environmental Design, and non-profit management course are limited at the moment. If you are interested in entering in those programs and course, you should contact with the head of the department on the possibility that you can get English instructions.
• Entrance exam is assessed by master’s thesis (those who do not hold master’s degree will be assessed by alternative research), the content of the research project, and the past record of your research activity. Please look at the prospectus for details.
• If you are interested in applying for Japanese Government Scholarship, we advice you to apply for master course of International Program on Effective Utilization of Technology in Graduate School of Decision Science and Technology. Then you can shorten the master course studying period and finish Ph.D program within 3 or 4 years if you are capable enough to satisfy the requirement.
• Other precautions

  2. (2)Financial aids (TA, scholarships) for the doctoral students
     

     Please look here for the details about the Research Assistant system.
     TA system is provided to give a chance to train the teaching ability for doctoral students in the Doctoral Program who have a good academic result.
